Handy Cage began as a minor solution to a minor problem – I needed a trellis in the corner of a square planter. I’m a welder. So, I made one.
Once it was finished, it seemed like a pretty good idea to build some more and use them for tomatoes. At the end of the first season, I found I could stack them in a very small space to store them in the winter. At the beginning of the next season, I realized they could be laid over the top of the rows and used as a tent structure for frost cloth to protect the newly planted seedlings. The things were so handy that I named them the Handy Cage and started selling them to our local garden centers.
It’s taken a long time to get to now, but here we are, and we’re manufacturing and selling an entire line of plant supports that are as good as you can get. Plus, it’s all made here, in the USA.
And that… is our story!
Maggie and Sammy – Circa 2006
(This picture of Maggie and Sammy is here because I wanted it to be. I do remember that on this particular
day, we caught Maggie stealing tomatoes – Just look at the guilt! So busted!! Such wonderful dogs!!!)
